Midweek Announcements!

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

New Announcements:
  • We are having another swap for stuff on Saturday, May 25th. This can include any furniture, clothing items, household items, etc. Please drop them off at Trisha's home on Friday to organize your items. We are asking that everyone organize their items on the table so that it is easier for everyone to know what is there. Everyone gets more out of it this way. Please remember you do not need to bring anything to take something, so please everyone come by! ,
  • Relief Society RETREAT May 17th-18th. All details can be found here: RS Retreat Info.
  • To parents of NURSERY CHILDREN:
    • Class rosters have been updated. Most classes have stayed the same, but please double check the roster on the door to make sure your child is in the correct class. There are 3 nurseries: one across the chapel from Bishop's office, one across from the bathrooms, and one across from the mother's lounge.
    • If you have a child joining nursery between now and December, your child has been added to a nursery class. Check the bottom of the rosters to find their name and date they can begin nursery.
    • If you cannot find your child's name on any of the nursery rosters, or you have any questions, please contact Elaine Burdett or Elaina Spray.
  • Please be sure to lock up your home and vehicles as there have been reported break-ins and attempted break-ins on campus.
  • If you have already moved from the ward, or will be moving from the ward over the  next few months and have not already informed us, please comment on this blog post with your name and predicted moving month, or if you have already moved, let us know. We are wanting to make sure that our records and e-mail list are current.
Reminders:
  • Photos from the Easter breakfast are posted on the Gateway photo stream here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gatewayward/ you may download them for free if you'd like.
  • Please check out the VT & Home teaching pages for assignments.

Sunday Lesson Summary:

Chapter 9: Sacred Family Relationships {Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Lorenzo Snow, 2011}

- “If we are faithful we will associate with each other in an immortal and glorious state. Those connections formed here, that are of the most enduring character, shall exist in eternity.”

-See that the little, trifling misunderstandings in domestic concerns do not poison your happiness. Wives, be faithful to your husbands. I know you have to put up with many unpleasant things, and your husbands have to put up with some things as well. Doubtless you are sometimes tried by your husbands, on account perhaps of the ignorance of your husbands, or perchance at times because of your own ignorance…I do not say but that your husbands are bad—just as bad as you are, and probably some of them are worse; but, never mind: try to endure the unpleasantnesses which arise at times, and when you meet each other in the next life you will feel glad that you put up with those things.

-Strive to teach your children in such a way, both by example and precept, that they will unhesitatingly follow in your footsteps and become as valiant for the truth as you have been. We should be able to say, do as I do, as well as to say do as I say.

-There is no Latter-day Saint who dies after having lived a faithful life who will lose anything because of having failed to do certain things when opportunities were not furnished him or her. If a young man or a young woman has no opportunity of getting married, and they live faithful lives up to the time of their death, they will have all the blessings, exaltation and glory that any man or woman will have who had this opportunity and improved it. That is sure and positive.

Service Opportunities:
  • There are approximately 30 families moving out of the ward over the next couple of months. Please lend a helping hand to these families as they need assistance moving/cleaning.
Free Items:
  • If you are having problems with roaches, you can call the city to come spray the manhole in front of your house at (480) 644-3550.
  • The ASU Poly Library has culture passes that allow 2 admissions to a variety of museums/parks/zoos. You need your sun card to check them out. They are good for 7 days, but the library has a limited number of each so plan accordingly.
